New green ride
Traded the KDX for a KLX400R. I am going to dualsport it and try to get a plate for it. Woodsy got my KDX to rip up the trails up north. The KLX is an '03 and hasnt been ridden much. Should make a good dualsport bike.
I took her out for some nasty tight singletrack the other day and it did surprisingly well. Great torque, decent suspension, stable and love the magic button!
It's not a 2-stroke, but it's green, well sort of.

I've heard a lot of different stories from different people. DMV used to check for DOT tires. I heard they don't do that anymore.
I've heard, too, that while office 'A' wouldn't register a particular bike, office 'B' did. I find that kind'a hard to believe.
Does the bike have a 'Not intended for highway use' or similar sticker on the frame? ...maybe it says 'Intended for off-road use only'. One'a those.
Supposedly any bike stickered similarly will NOT be registered.
All seems to boil down to, Who Knows!?
Good luck!

I had a DRZ also, at your weight you will likely want heavier fork springs. This bike vibrates some, so if you don't have aluminum bars, getting some will help for longer trips. They also make a kick starter kit for it that costs about $200, a little insurance for those lonely rides (I got mine from ronayers). Check out the DRZ forum on http://www.thumpertalk.com, they're a bunch of great guys with tons of knowledge on making the bike the most it can be.
