cleaning the reeds

I have recently purchased a bike with the Boyesen RAD valve with the carbon fiber reeds. I took them out for inspection and they look fine but have some small amount of black deposits on them. What is safe to use on the reeds to clean them? I was thinking mineral spirits or maybe carb cleaner. Should I remove the reeds from the reed valve to clean the underside too?

A fanatical parts cleaner, like myself, would take it apart and clean each piece separately. I have even been known to clean the threads on bolts before putting things back together.

Do you use throttle body cleaner, carb cleaner, mineral spirits, isopropyl alcohol or something else?

No reason to take them apart OR clean them.

The trash can the rad valve should be tossed in don't care if it's clean or not.

This a one year old reed. This not the ONLY case of such a thing, either. Carbon fiber ingested by the engine is NOT a good thing.

Do yourself a favor and off the thing.

Besides that....it doesn't work for squat.
