Another Throttle cable question

I have an 03 KDX 220 with RB'd carb. Problem is I cannot quite get WOT, looking into the carb the slide does not quite lift all the way. If I adjust the free play out of the cable, I start getting a weird rev when turning the bars to the right at idle.

Is the stock KDX 220 throttle cable limited (in travel) to something less than the new 36mm slide length needed of the RB carb?

The following assumes this is not a simple matter of too much free play in the first place.

The cable retainer (the white nylon piece) at the top of the slide may not be correctly placed. It has a tang on it that must fit in the slot in the needle retainer nut.

Check your cable for damage. They tend to fray where they rub on the curved tube going into the carb..and you don't SEE that unless you take the cable all the way out of the carb, and that requires removal of the clip on the tube.

Check your throttle tube for damage or restriction (bark buster interference?). Also check to make sure the cable is routed correctly in the throttle assy.

Having taken all the free play out of the cable, it is normal, not weird, for the engine to rev when you turn the bars. That's one reason you HAVE freeplay there in the first place.

No. It is not.

Man you guys are tough. Sorry for no response, but I store the bike at a friends garage and have not made it over there yet. Still a little warm here to ride yet. Also got married one of those weekends, when to some NHRA drags one weekend, etc.

Anybody got a picture the correct position of the white connector on the needle?

Anyways thanks for the help, I was able to repair my damaged KIPS valve from the great information posted here. Prior owner broke that lever in the case and it was ground to pieces in their, never found anything bigger than a splinter.

THe white clip only seats one way, look inside before you put the slide back in. It will definately look wrong or not seated if it is not.

We won't tell her you're not sure which weekend that was...but it WAS ONE of 'em anyway....

Good deal!! Some of those broken actuators have ended up blowing holes in cases AND lunching bottom ends (cranks).

Hey! There's no 'tough' to it. We just missed 'ya!

As already said...the cable retainer is easy enough to put together correctly once you take another look at it.

Maybe by Thanksgiving we'll know what's up!! (or ??) :hmm:
