my new trail tech kickstand.....

My recently acquired KDX220 did not have a kickstand. After deliberating the acquisition of an OEM kickstand, I finally decided to install the Trail Tech kickstand.
I cut to length a 3/8-inch OD, 1/4-inch ID, steel bushing to fill the hole for the subframe mounting strut. I then inserted a 1/4-inch bolt, and nyloc nut, to secure the subframe strut, and to serve as an anchor for the top of the kickstand spring.
Once installed, the Trail Tech kickstand was much too long for my bike. Therefore, I pulled out the nylon foot, and cut 2 inches from the bottom of the kickstand. I used a large drill bit to extend the hole for the nylon foot deeper into the kickstand, and I reinstalled the nylon foot.
To allow the kickstand to swing farther forward when lowered, I used an angle grinder to cut a different angle into the bottom portion of the mounting bracket.
Taking my first ride today, the kickstand worked well! However, I am going to periodically inspect all bolts to make sure they are still tight, and secure.

Can someone please take a pic of the kickstand in the raised position? Does it fit behind the number plate?

Re: my new trail tech kickstand.....
Thanks to everybody for posting this idea, and to B737driver for selling me his used trail tech kickstand. I mounted mine this evening. It didn't seem as strong as it could be, so I drilled and tapped the top hole and used a nut behind it as a spacer. I spaced the bottom it a little farther than some, as it seemed to bring the other two mounting points "square" with each other. In the end, I like it a lot. Bonus, the stand tucks up perfectly behind the number plate with a little tension like it was meant to be! Let's see how the whole thing holds up.

Nicely done. That extra bolt going through the frame should give it added stability. Glad it worked out for you.

I'm having trouble getting the plastic piece on the end off (the foot). Any suggestions?

Re: my new trail tech kickstand.....
I have the same problem. I can't for the life of me get that plastic foot out. I also can't get the spring attached at both ends. Making it more difficult is that the hooks on my spring at turned 90 degrees to each other and I need them parallel.rhody_romes wrote:I'm having trouble getting the plastic piece on the end off (the foot). Re: my new trail tech kickstand.....
For the spring, bolt the spring to the top hole like shown in photos. Then use some vice grips to stretch the spring and twist it the 90 degrees to attach it to the kicker. I just did it the other day, it wasn't too bad; just make sure to use good vice grips that are tight!
I cannot seem to get the freakin foot out either! Lol The one that I have (maybe you guys as well) looks like an updated design of what was originaly posted here? Unless I can some up with something better, I think I am going to try to cut the 1" out of the kickstand with the foot still attached. I will just try to not go into the plastic when I do. Maybe it would come out easier then. If I do end up messing up the plastic piece, I can try to tap the bottom of the stand and maybe bolt a little plate to it.

Re: my new trail tech kickstand.....
So right after I posted last night I frustratingly hate twisted the foot off. Got it! I used some channel locks with the stand in a vice and just grabbed the sides of the foot and twisted the hell out of it. It finally gave away. It is glued in with some sort of red material. Then I just kept twisting and pulling at the same time and worked it out. The inserted portion of the foot is just over an inch in length. The channel locks chewed up the side of my foot a little though. It was the only way I could get enough leverage though.Tyl3r wrote:For the spring, bolt the spring to the top hole like shown in photos. I'll give the vice grips a try. Thanks.

Got the new kickstand on finally. Only took about an inch off the end. Didn't have to redrill to put the foot back on either.

Re: my new trail tech kickstand.....
Trail tech replaced a kickstand I bought used. It was the older style, not the newer version pictured in the above post. I called about getting a new pivot bolt and the tech sent out everything but the bolt on mounting plate. Totally free. I was amazed at the customer service.
Found a couple pre ‘95 kdx200 bikes for a decent price but holding off for the newer style machines 220 or 200 I won’t complain. But I’d get this kickstand as the placement of the stock stand just seems to be in a bad spot imho.
I had to call them about the kickstand being too long, Tech said use heat to loosen up the adhesive used, red loctite when reinserting into the shortened stand. Quality company with great customer service and tech help.

Re: my new trail tech kickstand.....
I made a little bracket to connect the frame rail bolt to the main bracket mounting hole.

Re: my new trail tech kickstand.....
I contacted trail tech about getting a new threaded insert for the older round kick stand, the rep said that was the older kickstand. I bought it used and he said he would send out the newer style kickstand like in the post above. Trail tech sent out everything except the steel bracket that bolts to the frame & footpegs. Lighter and the updated design looks killer. I saw pics of the Pro Moto Billet kick stand and it’s another great design.

Re: my new trail tech kickstand.....
That new design is sweet! I was a little concerned about the older style bracket where it looked like it hung down lower than the foot peg. The new version looks like it belongs on the KDX! Thanks for sharing!

That does look great! What frame is it? I don’t have those overlapping brackets on mine.

Re: my new trail tech kickstand.....
Looking at it further the pivot does sit higher, keeping it more out of harms way. Nice how the mount is thicker foregoing the need of a spacer to mount it up.

Re: my new trail tech kickstand.....
Can you please list the part# for the new design kickstand. Also what year is that frame that it’s mounted on?
