Just got off the phone with Ron....

Look, I don't want to start any trouble here, but Ron said we could use whatever we wanted. It was all good.

He did want to see a poll done on what other people WERE using, though.

I wanna use Mrs. Butterworth's. Is that OK?

Sure...you can use whatever you want. That is true.

Your bike won't run for squat if you run some types (Energy Conserving)..but, hey! That's OK, too!

..as long as it's your bike, not mine!

Straight weight or multi-vis?

This has been a pretty good thread, especially comments about drawing conclusions or alleged analogies . . .

kinda' reminds me of the statements sometimes made about a 220 not being this, or not being that, or a 220 could never be as fast as a 200, or a 200 somehow automatically is more "explosive" or what have you . . .

OK - I'M DONE!! Just had to sorta slip that one in there somewhere!!!

Please back to the oil discussion!!

hey ski..........your right about the glitter in the ATF; because when i drained mine i thought where the HELL is all the metal coming from.....then i remembered that ATF is high in detergents....i'm assuming the 30w works fine with your A-clutch???? and not to heavy ???
because back this winter when i was on the fence with the A-clutch and had TONS of ?'s for GARRY he told me to use ONLY ATF and nothing else....... :?

Garry told me that too. But after all that metal, I got scared and went back to Mobil 1 20-50 Red Cap. (Doesn't have the friction inhibitors in it). Then I read up on Rotella and found it by the gallon at WalMart for about 8 bucks and gave it a try. It's not too heavy at all and works at least as good as anything I've tried in the past.

Here's a tip; if you are unsure if you have metal in your oil, dip a finger into it and give it a taste test. Ever get a small piece of aluminum foil in with some food? The electrolitic action will immediately be apparent. I can detect no metallic taste in my oil running Rotella.

i'll send ya sample and you can taste test it for me and let me know !!!

Just a BTW on the metal particles for comparison purposes - I don't get any significant amount and I run the ATF : 10w-40 2:1 (except when I was testing out brass balls in the powervalve governor but that's another story).

I don't do the taste test (YUCK!!) but I almost always drain the tranny oil into a small bucket and pour that into my oil collection tub through a lab funnel filter (just to observe wear and, well, because I have the filters). Interesting enough, I do find a few specs of other debris that is non-metallic as well as a spec or two of non-ferrous metal. And that's filtering the entire contents of the tranny - about a quart.

I wonder if mixing in the 10w-40 makes this difference ?!?

Just a thought . . .

Oil threads are OK as long as you realize that nobody is going to agree with you and that you will not take anyones advise.

Well said!!

Now, personally I use Wesson in the winter and Crisco in the summer.

Speaking of oils, I also use french fry oil in my fuel. Smells good!!

Rotella pricing at Wally-World...

Looked at the 5gal. tubs of RotellaT yesterday. Kind of a bother hassling with that large a container. There were no gallon jugs of the stuff.

The interesting part is the QUART bottles cost LESS (per quart) than the 5gal. pail!!! Only a few pennies less, but generally one would expect a pretty big price differential between single quarts and 5gal. pails!

I don't know what it tastes like..but when I'm done with my stockpile of YamaLube, I think I'll try some Shell Tasty-T.

Thanks for the input from y'all!

Re: What kind of?

Not this kind of. I simply helped out another poster's non-poll poll thread.

Thank me!
