Aluminium Homemade top clamp cones.

Since I went with a 'H' series top clamp on my '89 I want to make some aluminium handlebar cones (4) to replace the rubber ones. I have acces to a lathe where I work .
Some riders like aluminium handlebars cones some do not like...This is not really the point.
I have one question:
Do I fabricate them exactly like the OEM ones? I mean identical measures and dimensions? My only concern is rubber do not react like aluminium and I do not know if I need to fabricate them different than the stock ones.
Thanks
Phil

I made cones this morning. I made them just a
bit bigger than OEM, so they act like risers too.

Nice!
If I had known, I would have sent you the 16$ I just spent for Zeta aluminium cones!
Did you also make the block risers?
PS: I also like the Vise-Grip marks on the upper steering stem nut
Still snow in Québec (North Pole)?

Johnkdx220, I do not ship to Canada.
Yes, I made the risers... on a summer day... lunch time... to be exact.
16$ was the price I paid for my dinner. Too much for a soup and bread combo.

KDXQUEBEC, you rock!!!!!!!!!!
You will love the 97-06 kdx top clamp on your 89 with this rigid set up!!!

Thanks.
With right tools, we can do anything.
Re: Vise-grips marks.
Can we consider vise-grip like a good tool? Anyway, because you noticed the vise-grips marks on the upper nut, I must explain.
When I bought the bike (7 years ago) I was too cheap to buy a 30mm socket so I used vise-grips to unscrew the nut.
Do I still rock?

Vice grips? Nothing wrong with that. I used a hammer and chisel.

Good job! I also like the screwdriver lever to turn the grips. I've never seen that done. I now have a whole set of odd sized "sockets" utilizing your example, there McGuiver!!

Here is the most ingenius "McGiver" idea from KDXQuébec. I prefer this one because it doesn't leave marks on the nuts! The 2 feet long Quick Grip provides enough leverage to undo any bolt on your kdx. Try it! Its efficient and economical!
