swingarm question

Post by N8Strine »

I want to take the swingarm kickstand mount off, what would be the best way to go about doing this? Grinding it?

because I don't run a kickstand, so I don't need the mount for it. I just want to smooth the swingarm out. So what would be the best way to take the mount off?

kick stands are stupid on a kdx anyways. The only kickstand that looks good is on a ktm because they are out of the way.

Bikes without a stand make no sense to me

It's FUNCTION is what matters, to me

In what way, is it in the way, by the way?

Seems like you already know how to get rid of it from your OP

All I was asking is if anyone has taken the mounting tab off for the kickstand, I dont care if you like the kickstand or if its functional for you. For me I took my kickstand off when I got the bike, yes it is in the way, it sticks out and can catch on tight trails, but the kickstand is not what im asking about all im asking about is how to remove the mounting tab, it doesnt matter why. SO anyone else that can tell give me a good idea without asking why, let me know.

It matters to me, and I wondered why. Every time we ride I see these stoopid maroons looking for a tree or a rock to prop up there steed when all it really takes is a simple little thing like a kickstand

Gets in the way? Hardly think so, the footpegs stick out much further. Guess ya probably removed those too?

Grind the sucker off, it aint gonna come off all by itself

Glad I could be of assistance

Well maybe for trail riding they are ok but I race and do not want the extra weight, and yes the stockers are heavy and look very 80's. I have never had a problem when trail riding looking for a tree. Unless you have a KTM you will prob be the only one at a race with a kickstand.

I race and I have a kick stand. If I were going to remove mine I think I would cut it off with a porta-band. If nobody has any objections of course.

. . . Unless you have a KTM you will prob be the only one at a race with a kickstand . . .

That's just not true . . .

however, a big "Wish Mine was a KTM" sticker would cover that butt-ugly nekid kickstand tab just fine!

I'm not going to take a stand one way or the other, BUT if you do decide to grind I would buy a swingarm off E*** and do that one. If you are successful then you can sell the other one. If you screw it up really bad you still have the original.

I'm not going out in the garage to look, but my guess is that it is welded on around the perimeter of the plate. You could grind it down, sand it smooth, strip the paint off and polish the whole swingarm natural aluminum. It may look kind of cool...if you don't booger it up.
