the ol' double grip

Post by scheckaet »

been thinking about replacing my throttle with sumthin with a shorter twist from "off" to "OMG I'm gonna hit that tree".
The long twist requiering the double grip and twist method is getting annoying for me when I want to go fast and maul the bushes. So what I ask is what have you guys done to eliminate that.
Aftermarket tubes ??
It wasn't so much of an issue till I hurt my wrist a few months back and was thinking this could also help
I can't remember if the KX is one of them or not.
(search but didn't find the post)
Anybody?
Any drawbacks with a shorter twist? (beside getting in trouble faster)

Wilf-
I used the throttle assembly and cable from a '95 KX 125. The twist is a little bit less, its about 75 degrees judging by the marks on the grip left from jetting work.
The real advantage was that the internal mechanism in the grip was "better" than the KDX, I thought. I've got an easier pull WITH a bit less twist.

I don't know if these would fit or even be desirable on a big bike. They are used by some mini pilots. Just 1/4 turn from off to WFO.

My throttle is about 1/4 turn ALREADY . . . are other's KDXs different??

I've checked it before and I DO get a full throttle opening when the throttle is opened fully.

Aha! Jeb's only turning his bike on a liddle bit!!

...and he STILL thinks it's fast!!!!

ShreK: What is your twist from just-tensed (don't count freeplay) to WOT expressed in ºs?

Maybe you have a throttle cable problem you're not aware of....but will be soon....

If you are in the right riding position... a full thottle is very easy to do... It's a non-issue.

Sorry about the delay guys.
CC: my throttle is not acting up, same as usual (dunno how many degres it is)
Inda: I'm sure you are right, my position is proly not perfect. The fact of the matter is this never really was an issue till I got tendinitis in my wrist.
I always keep a finger on the brake and like to keep the revs high WHILE I'm braking (blip throttle, slipping clutch...sure you get the idea)
Dunno maybe my whole technic sucks (well I know it does  ) but i'm just trying to get better/faster any way I can
Now that I think about it, I've been shifting from standing up and sitting down a lot more since I had my shock revalved by jeff (really worth it :supz: ) sooo maybe I need to move my lever a tad down? Problem is they're as much down as I can, cuz the brake reservoir is resting against the throttle assembly...
Gonna try to turn the throttle assembly so that I can move the brake lever a bit more down, I'm thinking it should help the issue.
Ride report next week
