Another Pipe Thread

I have been poking around the forum looking for information about different pipe setups for my Kdx. I have only had my bike for about 6 months now, but it came with a couple of different pipes. I had a little time to play around with the different pipes before the snow fell, but I am not sure which one that I should be using.

I have 3 pipes and I know that I don't really want to use the stock one. But I also have a Bills pipe and an old FMF rev. The Bills pipe is the one in good condition.

Is the bills pipe a good pipe? Does this just come down to personal preference. I do not have any RB work yet, the motor is stock.

If there is enough light when I get home, I can try and take some shots.

I have heard that Bills pipes are pretty good.

I guess since I can't really find any information about the Bills pipe anywhere, I just wasn't sure if it was a good pipe to run. I haven't been able to find a review or anybodys opinion anywhere. The pipe is not even on the billspipes.com website that I can find.

I think that I am going to end up running it, I went and looked at my FMF Fatty again, and the expansion chamber is caved in about an inch or so.

do a search on pipe repairs, you can also check piperepair.com
You might be able to pop it out yourself.
good luck

Is it worth fixing in order to run the FMF Fatty instead of the Bills? Yes, it is cheaper to fix it, but will it perform better? Anybody got any kind of comparison?

I haven't heard of anybody runnning a bills pipe on a kdx, so it'll be hard to compare...
Usually it's FMF or powercore. If it was me I'd try to fix the fatty and run it. (depending on where the dent is, it might not affect performance at all. I've heard if it's on the biggest part of the pipe, it shouldn't matter)

The 'usual' is FmF and ProCircuit in pipes.

Something to keep in mind..the size and shape of the pipe of course is what makes it what it is. An FmF torque pipe measures 11" at the bell, the rev 14". Compare the size of the Bill's and Fatty to get an idea how they fit into that measurement scheme. It's not fair to say it's at all absolute, but the larger the bell, the higher in the RPM range the pipe will work the best.

Compare headpipe length, too. The pipe that has the longer headpipe (before the bell starts) will have a better bottom end. That's also true of the pipe that has the smaller diameter of pipe in that section.

A 1" ding is hardly a cave. It won't matter, so don't worry about that part. It takes a few minutes to swap pipes, so why not try them both? I'd bet they are close enough that you wouldn't need to re-jet to get a quite good idea how the two compare. If you DO feel a notable difference..run a jetting sequence on the better of the two.

Ride...be happy!!
