Side to side?

That's not generally a wear factor..it's usually quite a bit...and doesn't generally matter.

Up and down?

If you can feel it...it's way bad.

imo and completely lacking any notable references.

I'm with CC on that. Any actual up down play and it's long gone, it'll beat the lube out in no time. Besides, if you can feel a bit of play by hand imagine how much there really is under power at the rear wheel?

'Course, you did not say up down, did you.

CC had what looked like a neat solution to that lower bearings weaknesses, if you'd care to search.

Uh oh...we're not talking about a connecting rod?

Are we?

Lower shock bearing? Some game in Austrailia (sic).

I think I've fallen (probably down the stairs, even)...and I know I can't reach my beer!!!

WHAT ARE WE TALKING ABOUT??

Oops - should've been more specific . . .

yes, I'm talking about the lower ROD bearing. I looked to see what the slop (side-to-side) is tolerable per spec in the online manual and couldn't locate it.

and thanks!

There probably is a specification, but I don't know what it is.

If it was a babbitt type bearing, it would matter because excessive side play drops oil pressure..sometimes to the point of bearing failure.

...but it isn't...so don't!

OK, so the moral of the story is I don't need to worry about it . . . right?

I know it's something that's reputed to be important to check on my son's lil' yellar rocket so I started drawing conclusions.

So what's the criteria for lower rod bearing replacement-time I wonders?

I did found a little up and down play on mine and decide to ignore it. That was 2000 miles ago  The service limit of that bearing is two times the service limit of a four stroke. Mine is a little over the service limit and I am prepared to face the consequences
