The 'deep down inside' part is easily viewed if you cut the threaded shell off. You will see something like this:

That dark ring with optimum jetting will be 1mm wide. Note the pictured ring is wider than that, which = rich.
The longer you run the bike a WOT..the darker/more defined the ring will be.
The plug below shows a solid ring..also has been run long enough to get some color. This is NOT a WOT plug chopped plug..included here only to show a well defined telltale.
