Older KDX 200 Bikes

Post by ga4boats »

I am looking at a couple of bikes on Craigslist. One is a 1991 for $700 and the other is a 94 for $1200. Generally speaking, are these reloable bikes? I am looking for a fun bike for woods use. Something I can do signle track and also tool around with my son, who has a 100 Honda 4-stroke. Thank you for any advice.

Great bikes! The 94 should have inverted forks.... not like KX forks but a little less underhang.

Definately check them out....

Not many bikes out there as reloable!

89 - 94 are known to be tractors

With a little maintenance they just keep going and going...

Since when?

ga4boats: If you looking for a fun bike for woods use for cheap you need a E series 89-94.

Look for 95 and up too! You can find a good one, at a good price.

Folks,

Thank you for the feedback! I spoke to the guy with the 94 and it sounds like a nice bike. He did say that one fork seal was beginning to leak a bit. Assuming it does leak and isn't just loaded with dirt, is this a fairly easy fix on the KDX? I did this once on an XL250 and it was no fun, and they still leaked (turned out the forks were a little bent).

If it is leaking and not physically damaged.... I have some seal reconditioner that usually takes care of those issues.

Check it out and let me know....

Thanks for all the help! Apparently the older bike is sold and I did look at the 94 today. Nice seller, but I was hoping for a little cleaner ride. I may check back with him, but I really want a little bit better shape. So I am still looking. If anyone knows of a good KDX 200 (or 220R although I would prefer a 200) in or around Atlanta - I would be interested.

Problem solved - just bought a 2001 KDX 200. It now sits in my garage!

Thank you; glad to be back in the fold. I once had a 220R. I will be asking some questions about this, that and the other soon!

I just took a close look at my VIN and it seems the bike is a 1999 and not a 2001. From what I can tell, there is no difference between these years other than graphics. You would think the seller should know what year the bike he is selling (more importantly the buyer (ME) should know what year he is buying!). This bike must have been sold as a leftover some time after 1999 - it is in new condition. I am wondering if it saw much time off-road, as the graphics, plastics and frame are so clean.

The guy sold you an '01 maybe 'cuz that's what he bought.

...he was told..and never checked.

Re: 'more importantly the buyer (ME) should know what year he is buying!).

Well...yeah. Can't argue with that.

A '99 is an 'H' series bike...not the 'E' series mentioned earlier. Completely different scooters.

Yes...BNG (Bold New Graphics) is about the only change in ANY 'H' model. Well...the colors of things (frame paint..tank plastic) changed, too.

What does 'single track' equate to in Atlanta?
