Repainting FRP fiberglass pipe guard?

Post by SteveWR450f »

Ok, I am running out of projects for the bike. I really worried that girlfriend will create a new house "honey do" list. So please help.

I was wondering if I could sand and repaint the pipe guard to make it look better. Its really scratched up from the rocks.

I was thinking some time of automotive high temp fiberglass paint. Wondering if anybody tried this. Dont want it to look worse by chipping off later.

I really wish I had a e line cabon fiber guard but they dont make them anymore.

Thanks for your time, Steve

I made my fiberglass guard and painted it with the black BBQ paint, worked fine. I think it only comes in black though.

Huh? Have you called them? They are a very small company and last time I called them I talked to the owner and he told me I could send him my pipe and he would make a guard for it.

Just because no one carries an E-Line pipe guard doesn't mean you can't get one.

Yep, I read your post last time about the carbon guard so I called them. Something about retooling and not enough need to justify kdx pipe anymore. Basically, they are all 4 strokes now.

I definately need to find a paint that can take some heat.

I've painted my FRP guard a number of times. Some kind'a BBQ paint or other. Maybe Krylon..maybe Rustoleum..

Works fine.

Never bothered sanding it. It's just going to get smashed up again!
