Can we have some pics of that?
Here is the ebay shot. I'll snap some more this weekend if you want. From my observations, it appears that the bike was in a fire but I could be wrong.

I think I see a "little" bit of rust in that cylinder

No. My fire was hot enough to vaporize the aluminum away. No cylinder left to examine, only the rod and rings were left to the top end.

See if you can spot the rings:

Yes, I didn't care about the condition of the actual cylinder. I only needed the valves so it was a perfect buy for me.

Found 'em!! All that aluminum is like flakey dust. I grabbed the counter shaft sprocket and pulled out the gear train.

Now, this is pretty dumb but I was excited about my package that came. I should have one more coming later this week and this should be a big weekend assuming I can get my forks apart.

So I put in a few more hours on the bike this weekend. It's getting to the point that I'm tired of dumping money into it and I'm ready to start riding it. I'm starting to put things back together. The bike won't be a show bike but it's a dirt bike so it's not supposed to be. It will still look a whole lot better when I'm done then it did when I started and at least I'll know it's mechanically sound. The bike should last me a long time and I've enjoyed the process. I figure about another month or two and the thing will be finished. Mostly because of the money and the fact that I only work on it about one day a week.

To begin with I took a shot of my welded swingarm. I can't tell. Do all "E" series swingarms look like this? If so then I won't bother buying a spare but I don't want to ruin a set of bearings just to find out.

Image

I took the frame out and cleaned/degreased it with simple green. It's not as good as fresh paint but it's a dirt bike so I'm okay with that.

Image

Cleaned the rims up and discovered that the front is an Excel rim. Nice. On the other hand I discovered the rear rim is destroyed around the bearing. I'm not sure what caused it but I might have to replace it before it's over.

Image

I got the engine all buttoned back up with the new top end and I got it cleaned up a little. Once it's all back together I can take it down to the local carwash station and hit it again. I just did enough to make sure I didn't get anything in the engine while I was reassembling it.

Image

I got the engine installed in the frame and a few more things like the exhaust hooked back up.

I'll keep you all posted.

You can buy a swingarm from a 89 to 94 kdx200 . They are the same. You can get one on ebay for cheap.

What is the problem with the one you aleready have? The aluminium bearings races holes are destroyed?

I'm wondering if the weld is normal or if mine has been welded due to a crack.

Wich weld? Please post an other picture and clean the aera, but what i see in your swingarm picture is normal.

On the other hand I discovered the rear rim is destroyed around the bearing
Is it a breakage around the little aluminium lip? (where the rubber seal sits)

Yes, that is exactly what it is.

Also the weld I am referring to is the main one in the picture. The one all the way down the side right behind the bearing hole.

So is the breakage around the aluminum lip a common problem with these bikes? I'm currently watching a rear rim on ebay but it appears that it's going to go over $100. Just my luck.

Well I know this thread has been kind of dead lately but I've been busy. My kid turned 1 and we had to have a big party and so on and so forth but this weekend I will be able to get back into the swing of things.

I ordered all new bearings for everything except the linkage because they were out of stock. I can put them in easy enough at a later time. I found two parts bikes and I was able to get a ton of things from the guy for $125 shipped. I got a rear excel rim with axle and rotor, a rear shock in great shape, a rectifier, 2 headlight sockets, 2 seat covers, a front wheel hub with rotor and axle, 2 bags of misc. hardware, a chain guard, a chain slider and a few other random things that I needed.

I also got my box of Interceptor oil from Amsoil so this is going to be a big weekend. Hopefully I will at least get it fired back up. I'm taking the rim to put the tire on it on Sunday since I own 1/2 of a tire changing machine but it's in my buddy's garage. Does anyone have any suggestions for which tire to run for woods riding? I'll be needing one before too long but I'm going to run what I have for now.

I'll keep everyone posted and I'll have more pictures by Sunday. :supz:

Yes, I saw those. I need some things from him anyway so I was going to go that route. Since you suggested it, then it must be worth the $45. I'll call him and order up one and the other things that I need.

Is anyone using his chain slider? Does it work fine and last at least as long as stock?
