McMaster needle bearing

Does anybody remember what bearing was available in the Mc Master catalog. I think it was for the rear linkage or maybe the swingarm. I believe Canyoncarver put one in his bike back in the day. It was described as a " caged needle bearing Part number #5905K76" I saved the information, but now i can't remember where to install it. Any help would be appreciated.

That should be the lower shock bearing.

Thanks. I'll order one right away. I didn't want to order 1 and find out I needed 2 for the swing arm bearing.

It won't fit without machining the seals.

5905K98 is it. It's wider because it's double sealed. The amount of 'extra' width has to be removed from someplace..and it's from the seals.

I wasn't trying to comment on Canyoncarvers age, only that the post was so long ago. Is the machining along the lines of trimming the seals and a little sanding? Or, does it require a lathe and some other special tools? How did you do it? Thanks

Well...you SHOULD have been!! No apology or backstep necessary..we're mostly a bunch of smartaleks 'round here!

You looked at the pics in the gallery (link above..or in any of my posts, actually)? They're in the 'In-Thread' album. You can see the arbor that was used..and what was removed. What's removed is metal from the outer ring of the seal. It was done on a lathe.

You can easily see it on my wonderfully fantastic holiday back-dropped pics!

How much was removed? I don't know that. Make some measurements of the OEM setup, make the new (fatter) bearing setup match.
