Do you fix your own bike?
I was wondering how many guys send thier bikes to the dealer? (With all the Info on this site I can't see why but my life revolves around two things: riding and wrenching )

I work on my Kdx: tires, topend, forks seals, replace bearings and I play with the ''brass'' too. But never tried to work on the rear shock and remove dents on the pipe. This site helped me and will help me again. But in fact we are people behind the screen.
I even tried to split the crankcase once (in 2002) because approx 1/2oz of 2stroke engine oil was always inside the magnetto cover after a couples of rides.

Being a mechanic by day, I cant justify not doing the work myself. Besides I'd have to sell the bike to pay for repair costs.

I do all my own work except for the rear shock. I have found it cheaper to let a pro do that. No more often than the shock gets worked on, I can't justify buying the eqipment to do it myself. I thimk riding versus working/tuning is about a 50/50 on the enjoyment factor. I love to mess with the bikes, I dream about them. Plus I have only found a couple of mechanics in my area that I consider worthy of the title mechanic. Most of them seem to know even less than the people behind the parts counter. And that ain't much. Thank the Lord for online OEM parts.

I do all my own work...on two bikes. I did the top end on the KDX by myself and even replaced the valvetain in the fo'fiddy, with a mechanic looking over my shouder though.
I work at a shop thought so I can get all the help I want if I need it. I do my own work though and they show me what to do, it works out pretty well!

If it is small repairs, Im on it.
Shocks go out, rebuilds go out, I dont have the time to rapair 3 bikes on a constant basis.

I work on my bike all the time, except for changing tires and splitting the cases only because I don't have the tools for it. I'd also send my shock in for overhaul or just replace it. Fixing the bike yourself just gives you knowledge and let's you know what you've got. The service manual and this site are my best friends when it comes to figuring out something I don't know
