You do know that this is a WOODS bike... not an MX bike.

In answer to the question, as irrelevant to anything real as it may be:
Oh. Wrong pipe, you say?
The KDX will fare much better AND be a better ride than an 85cc anything.
Example: Ride away from your rig on a KDX until the 85 runs out of fuel. THEN turn your KDX around and wave as you head back.
That...amongst considerably many other things.
Cheers!

Depending on where you ride, a KDX will be to heavy to push around on a woods enviroment for a kid your age. Injuries tend to be more severe with heavier faster bikes. I will hold on to the 85 for a couple of years. They are a blast to ride and perfect for your age /size on off road use. That is unless you need a new bike anyway.

I rode for some years with a guy that grew up on bikes. He'd get lifted up onto the seat..the bike started for him...off he'd go 'til he ran out of gas! If he did stop, he would ride up next to a tree..use it to lean against.
He was about 1/2 your age, rode Montessas...Pursangs.
5'3" doesn't have to stop you, I'm sayin'.........
Have fun!!

It's not all about HP-to-weight, only where the power is. A 85 (like 125's) are meant to be ridden up top. KDX's can grunt like no other and have power all through. Bottom line is the KDX's have power for what they do, woods, and 85's are meant for the track.

I'd say stick with the 85, one of my riding buddies rides and RM80 and it hauls ass. It'll pull me around without a problem but I'm only 150lbs. If your an aggresive rider, something like an 85 is great. Personally I love to have a bike rapped out high in the RPMs and fly through the woods. I hardly ever lug my KDX when I ride it, I can't ride it fast that way.
