Are those overflow tube things (forgot the name)? Do they do anything for you?

Where are the tubes connected? And how does the theory go that they will keep the dirt out?

those are the 2 carb vents or whatever they are (top of the carb).
Supposedly, the vents beeing in the air box won't suck as much dirt, never had any trouble one way or the other
