Do you have to remove engine from frame for top end?
We can't get to the shaft advancer thing where the reverse bolt is...

just an fyi for future search results.
No, the engine does not have to be removed to pull the top end.
On the kdx220 we removed both of the engine mounts up top, and loosened the left radiator to pull the bolts for those mounts out. We also took off the pipe which made it easier to do. Much easier.
On the older kdx200 it was very easy, pulled the pipe only and the rest was a cake walk.
