Another thread started by yours truly! But i have an interesting question.
Ok a few months ago i picked up a 1990 KDX200 and swapped in a pair of .38 xr springs. Love em!
A couple days ago i pickup a 2001 kdx220, and i want to swap in a new pair of springs. My question is this....
A lot of people swap newer kdx springs into older kdx's. Would it be a smart idea to take the xr400 springs from the old kdx, and put them in the new kdx, then put the springs from the new kdx into the old kdx... ???? Still with me? :) lol
AND, if i do that, do i have to cut new spacers for both bikes? I made new spacers for the xr springs in the old kdx, would they still work? When swapping in xr springs into newer kdx's do you have to change the spacers??
Ok, all done, thank you :)

I beleive there is a "STICKY" about XR 400 year/springrate/fit under suspension.

the springs out of the new KDX will work good for someone who weighs in at a 150 Lbs. I ride my 02 much more than my 05. Therefore I have RaceTech spring and gold valves in my 02. Just XR spring with stock valving in the 05. I put the better suspension parts on the bike I use more.

Hey cleo:
whichever spring ends up in your fork tubes remember these three things:
1) Choose a spring rate based on your weight (you + gear).
2) The spacer that you put in there should have a length to give you 10-12mm of preload. Ask if this doesn't make sense or you're not sure how to do this. This is as important as the right springs in this type of fork.
3) Many report that removing a couple of shims from the shim stack in the base valves makes for improved performance. Do a search for details.
