The XR400 springs will fit as well should you decide you need a heavier spring rate than the 95-05 .35kg.

thanks for your info.i just bought them on ebay.25$.they are .35 k springs.the springs i have in my bike (kdx200 89)are 496mm long.the one i bought are 470mm (2005 kdx200) long.I dont know anything about forks but is it ok?

my manual says...if the spring in the forks of the 1989 is shorter than 486 mm (service limit)it must be replaced.the one i bought is 470...i am confused.

should i put a longer metal tube spacer.or install them with the stock ones...i really dont know and i need some advices and help in this case thank you so much...phil.

Phil... use 1 inch Schedule 40 PVC pipe to make the spacers, do not use your old spacers!
Did you read the post that Mark W posted about changing springs?
Read it.

Yours don't have a rod so yours are easier. Are you changing your fork oil too? If so... let us know and I will write a procedure for you.

******Service limit is specific to your old springs... not these. *******

i will not use my old spacers. ok

you said***Phil... use 1 inch Schedule 40 PVC pipe to make the spacers*** please be specific....

do you mean i should buy a same diameter pvc tube and cut them one inch longer than the stock one?(tube metal spacer)

1 inch inside diameter PVC.... cut to length. Meaning, measure the space after you replace the springs and cut the PVC to that length taking into account the preload amount. (above and beond the space) 6 to 10mm of preload usually.

The preload is the amount the PVC compresses the spring after the cap is on.

Remove handlebars, loosen top clamp pinch bolts, take caps off, remove springs and spacers, put new springs in, measure space that the springs don't take up to top of tube. If you cut your PVC spacers to this length, you will end up with about 6mm of preload I believe (preload is how far the cap presses the spacer downward when tightened)

Forget all about the metal spacer, it has nothing to do with nothing.

VERY IMPORTANT!!!! Make sure your frontend is supported by something other than the frontend.... or when you pop the caps, it will end up a lowrider.

Support the bottom of the frame and make sure your frontend is in the air.

OK... measure from the very bottom of your cap to where it seats on your tube.

Now imagine the spacer rests flush with your tubes.... when you screw the cap on, the preload amount will be the measurement I had you just measure on your cap.

If the spacer comes above your tubes by 4mm's... add that to the preload from above.

Is that more clear?

P.S... you call that a picture?

ok.if the part of the cap that goes in the forks tube when it is totally screw is 6mm and the spacer was flush to the tube before put the cap on= the preload is 6mm right?

if the spacer is out of the tube by 4mm =the preload will be 10mm?

sorry ,my english is not at the best.

am-i understand now? thanksfor your patience.

Compress fork with spring out. Add oil, measure depth to oil from top of tube, this is your level.

my forks are totally empty.my idea was to put 615ml in each tube like my manual say.

i know there is a method with a seringue or a rule.we have to measure the lenght or free space (no oil) when the springs are in.am i right? thanks
