Throttle stuck

Post by staxbrix »

I took apart the carb to check to see if the float is working. When I put it back together the throttle wouldnt budge. When I loosened the cable to get some play, the tension brtoke part of the plastic where the cable goes in. Still dont get much movement, whats wrong?

If it worked before you took it apart, re-trace your steps and you'll likely find the issue by yourself.

I didnt have the needle in the jet. How will I know if the needle is ok?

Im still haveing the overflow problem, I lowered the floatl as much as I could without the needle sliding out. So as soon as I put in gas it starts dripping steadily.

You need a manual my man.... look up top on the right. Float height has to be pretty exact... it's not an eyeball thing....

I have the manual for the 89-94 but dont know if the specs are the same.

These other guys are telling me it could be a sticking or punctured float, a dirty or worn needle valve seat or a sticky pin in the top of the needle valve?

Of the carbs internals... like the float assembly...

You should be able to pick up an 88 carb pretty cheap on eBay...

My float gets stuck when I forget to turn the gas back on  and I burn all the gas outta my carb. When it fills back up it overflows. When it starts overflowing I shut off the gas knock on the bowl hard untill i can hear the float moving around. Then turn on the gas and problem is solved.

I hit it with a screw driver but didnt hear anything moveing.

Could there be a problem with the tank or fuel line?
When I turn the fuel on or off it keeps coming untill its pretty much empty.

Sounds like you got a booger in the valve seat. That's the gizmo that the float is actually turning on and off. If the valve doesn't seal, gas just pours into the float bowl no matter what the floats are doing.

Simple, no?

See if the tip of the valve is worn. If the slope of the valve is worn it won't seal. You can pick a new valve and clip cheap and it will eliminate one possible cause. I myself have seen few KDX's that don't at least have a little leakage. Not like you lay it on its side but some peeing none the less.
PS doesn't that float pin suck!!!

missing A clip to the valve and the tang, I think?
I got it to barely drip so Im happy at the same time im out of gas.

I was adjusting the idle and it revs high and I have to kill it. Im going to try to tune it in the day but its possible I bent the needle jet?

When the carb is running out of gas the RPMs will shootup also. If you cann't lower the idle with the screw then you might have a lean condition. I would think that it would take alot of force to bend the needle. I would think much more than what broke the plastic piece. You should be able to visually look for a bend in the needle.

Did your valve look like this at all? The clip I am talking about is the wire piece at the top of the valve.

I tried to start it before work and there wasnt enough gas. I put some gas in when I came home but it was too late to fire it up. So ill see tommorow im going to the kawi dealer for some stuff after I check it out.

I went to add some oil and the twist off rubber cap broke. Are these the same for most models or will it be back ordered?
I want to do a oil change.

I forgot to do a compression check. Is it important to have no gas or can I just disconect the fuel line? Hold the kill in or disable the electronics?

Doesn't matter about the gas. Hold the throttle wide open and hold the stop button and kick her over until the guage stops raising.
