YZ-F peg to KDX

Post by MXOldtimer »

I've had some pegs sitting in my shop from either my 00-YZ-426F or YZ-250F, doesn't matter since they're the same peg.
I'd looked at them and they looked like they might work on my KDX with a little work.

Turned out to be very little work or trouble.

First I cut the barrel off the peg and grind down the thickness less than a 1/32 which I did on the bench grinder.

Then I reshaped the stop that hit the frame which you can see was very close to begin with. You'd have to be careful not to take to much off otherwise. I actually make the peg a touch high on the end to force my knees in.

Difference in the pegs is only a quarter+ of an inch but you can sure feel the difference just standing on the peg. Plus they have a more aggressive row of teeth

The width goes to the rear and the measurement from the peg to the shifter remained the same. The height is also the same "maybe" 1/16" taller.

Here's a view from the top.

Amazing they're so close in shape/pitches and I wasn't sure it would really work when I started but it turned out easier and worked better than I expected.
Hopefully I'll get the other one done tomorrow and give it a test ride.

Funny thing is I replaced these stock pegs for Fastways that's why I had them. Now I wished I'd put the stockers back on when I sold the bike and kept the Fastways.
Nice to know though YZ-F pegs will also work so easy on the KDX.

I better keep my mouth shut until I get the other peg on. LOL

Nice. I really like the pegs on my kid's YZ. They're nice and roomy, plus made of unobtainium. :supz:

I did the same thing a couple weeks ago, great minds think alike. I had a set off my '03 WR250f and sure enough they fit just perfect with a little love from the grinder. I also left mine tilted up to help with squeezing the seat/tank.
