Mobil 1 Racing 2t Discontinued!
The Mobil/Exxon website states that they discontinued production Aug 31. Should I hoard what I can find, or is there a better oil available to switch to?

I think they discontinued their 2-stroke oil before, only to release it under a different name (I'm not 100% sure on this).
I really like the Mobil MX2T. Seems to burn really clean. I'm using a 2-year old spark plug that still looks really good (jetting helps I'm sure). I guess I'll have to switch when I run out. I have heard good things about Amsoil, and also Yamalube.
Is it a good idea to completely drain the gas tank and carb when switching brands? I did that when I bought the bike new because I had no idea what brand or how much oil the dealer used.

I think when they did it before, they added red dye to the formula. The website says that there will not be a replacement. When I got back into riding, earlier this year, I spent a lot of time researching oils, trying to read between the lines and avoid hype. I settled on Mobil 1, because it had amongst the best base and additive package (true synthetic), was easy to find seven days a week and seemed to be the best value. I don't remember much, if any, negative. Now I'm back to square one.
The Amsoil sounds great, but I hate their Amway/Slick 50 marketing. But, if their oil keeps things clean and moving, with minimal wear, I'll try it.

If you like it and are happy why not buy a year or two supply? Seems like when oils are discontinued they go on sale.
Gramps - 99% of premix oils are suppost to intermix without problems - but I always drain the tank and refill with my own premix when I buy a used bike or if I rebuild a bike for someone = piece of mind.

We don't have Kragen's in Dallas. Autozone, O'Riely's and Pep Boys are about it for the chains. Both O'Rielys and Autozone carry the 1 quart bottles here, and seem to have plenty on the shelf. They just stopped making it Aug 31, so it make take awhile for stock to dwindle and it starts to get scarce. I'm not going to panic, yet!
