Pipe gasket, "o" ring question???

Post by 89'200 »

Hey guys! Quick question here, the Gasket/"o" ring around the exhaust pipe where it comes out of the head of my '89 KDX 200 is shot. I can see a little smoke sneakin' out around the pipe, but i have not noticed any loss of power. I am heading down to setup this weekend for the Hocking Hills Enduro, we ride both courses down there and put up the arrows before the races start ( of course we will play a little too!). Anyhow i was wondering if any of you know a quick fix/ shortcut and if it will be ok for this weekend?

Silicone will fix you right up... pull the pipe out, clean it, goop it, slide it back in and it's good to go. No need to get the new O rings and re-fix either....

I have the same problem. I went to autozone and got a muffler repair kit for $2. Its just a high temp bandage and silicone, soak and wrap. If you measure you can get a steel band to go around too.

I've got some of the black rtv silicone laying around the shop somewhere, haven't fixed the prob yet. A new problem with the brakes came up so i didn't make it to the race anyhow. Oh well thats how it goes with these old bikes!!!!
