Cleaning Stinger
I just pulled the silencer packing on my KX250 and it was very ugly. The packing was black and alot of the holes in the stinger were pluged with that black tar 2-stroke of unburnt fuel oil mixture goodness. Any suggestions on how to clean out the stinger would be much appreciated. I recently changd the packing in my KDX220 but the stinger was not as bad as my KX.
Thanks.
Thanks.

have you tried a wire brush? That's what I do on mine, works good. If the "goodness" is too hard and still plugs the holes, I use a screwdriver to unplug every hole (tidious but work., now I learned my lesson and do it more often )

Not all Gunk is good gunk...imo
The foaming Gunk junk is...well...junk.
The "heavy duty' stuff cuts a lot more goo a lot more quicker.
...never used it on the S/A core. A wire brush has always been sufficient in making me feel I was accomplishing something, but... I have yet to have a hole plug up.
YCCC (Yamaha Combustion Chamber Cleaner) is rumored to be the fang-dangledest carbon cleaner in the entire space of the 3rd rock from the sun.
..haven't tried that, either..
What a wealth of information!!

If you set up a good clamp/holder for the stinger, engine de-greaser, soaked for a few, and a pressure washer works great......And, no dried out hands!

the torche works great doesn't it? You did not hurt anything, it's just a tube with holes in itfLyNbYu wrote:I just cleaned the core last night with a torch. It actually was glowing red after the flames went out. Dunno if it hurt anything, but it burnt everything up and all i did was tap it on the ground and some residue flaked off and it was all clean.

I betcha that smelled good. I tried using my the electric burner on my stove by holding the stinger up against it and rolling it back and forth. The place got pretty smokey pretty fast. I had to hurry up and air the place out before my wife got home and threw a fit. I liked the smell, but what smells good to me does not usually smell good to my wife. For example I like the smell of my own farts (doesn't everybody?) but she thinks they stink, well I guess I think they stink too but a good stink. Okay, I'll stop now.

Regular carb cleaner works pretty good too
