200 or 220?

Post by Nashport_native »

well I pulled my topend apart to degunk and re-ring my kdx and found a piston that looked like it has had 5lb of sand through it, the cylinder is just as bad. since I have to either get it sleaved or plated, I was wondering if I could just have a 220 sleave and piston put in insted of the 200.

I know my woods knarly pipe wouldent be a good combo for this engine package, but is there anything else I should know befor trying this? I plan on running either a athena or wisco forged piston, along with my head that I have sending to RB to have cut and setup for race gas.

please reply with any ideas or things that you could see not working here.

thanks.

Look at the crank too. Sand isn't good down there either.

The 200 is ported differently than the 220.... so it would just be a big bore kit basically. You would not have any of the 220's attributes other than bore size.

The 200 goes to 225 with a big bore job.

Re: '..looked like it has had 5lb of sand through..'

I gather there isn't sand in it...it just LOOKS like it does?

That could come from a coolant leak.

What DOES it look like otherwise? Dented like something has been banging around? Or just ashlike/grey from incorrect carburetion.

If you actually sucked sand into it..you have more problems than the cylinder and piston.

Not enough information to say anything of import OR value.

I did anyway. Say something I mean.

Wasn't of import or value, though!

Uh...Ron needs to know...HAS to know what you're doing with the cylinder. If you send him a 200 head..say 'race gas please'...and DON'T tell him the cylinder is going to be a 225...you will be a very unhappy customer..and it will be 100% your own doing..

no, it was just really wore. everything in the bottom end looks great, it just has lots of scratches in the direction the piston moves, I would guess the piston is the one the bike came with new.

I have just gonna have it sleaved back to a 200 and be done with it for now.

Generally, the 200 is bored, replated, honed. Well..if you're sticking with a 200cc displacement cylinder. Said another way, the 200 is NOT sleeved to make it 200cc (well..198cc).

So...sleeving is not your option. Replating is.

..and US Chrome is NOT the place to get it done.

thats a real common upgrade for fredette. He bored and plated my 200 to 220 with wisco 220 piston and did porting work. sure is fast now but its not cheap.

What is 'real common'? :hmm:

What is the Wiseco part number of your piston?

Fast compared to what?

Fast don't mean sh*t on a woods machine anyway, well unless you aint got no woods
