The word 'fantastic' doesn't generally get appended with an '..ed'.

Fantasticated?

Then, yes...it is F...ed up. Fantasticated indeed!

ok i gave it a run today, it was quite a bit better. I only did 12 miles and it was all single track gnarly stuff but it was fun.

You know, if the XR is gonna collect dust, remember that it has the exact same forks as the KDX, and the 250 comes stock with .398 kg springs... I don't reccomend it but if you want to get crazy, they will suit a 195lb rider better.

Anyway, Have fun! I remember my spring swap, made me a lot faster. You'll appreciate them more and more the faster you push the bike :supz:

:::raises hand:::

Um...I have a question...

Can't you just cut your new spacers 4 mm longer than the stock spacers if you want 4mm more compression???

We are about to do this to xagentmans bike and MXoldtimer included a piece of like, 1.5 in dia plastic pipe, I guess intended to be cut for spacers...

Anyway I guess we should have asked what the PVC was for. What am I missing? Why are we lengthening the spacers?

OK so that's 3 questions canyncarvr...so sue me!

Oh..sorry, I followed a link from a question in the Q&A but if you read through it a bit it says something about how so and so measured the length needed to add 4mm to the spacer length.

They asked him from where to where did you measure and all that making it all complicated and all and it just seemed to me that they could just have cut the new spacers 4mm longer than stock...

re:cleoent - ok i did it! Just wanted to make sure i did it right.

Took out old springs and top washers popped in new springs and top washers. Measured 61mm to the top of the fork, i made a 65 mm spacer which gives me 4mm of preload right? Definitely feels a bit better just from pushing up and down on it, took about 1/2 hr or so.

HOpefully tomorrow after work i can sneak some time to head out and try it on the trails! I didn't touch the fork oil, i figure one thing at a time.

AND

re:saddletramp - You measured from the top of the spring washer to the bottom of the fork cap, with the cap threaded all the way down on the damper rod right ?

AND

re:cleoent - what is a damper rod?

No, that's not how i measured

I measured from the top of the spring washer, to the top of the fork without the cap on, then made the spacer 4mm longer, that's not gunna work eh?

Like I said we are just about to upgrade the forks springs on my kids bike and am wondering what I'm in for.

If you can't help it's OK I should open a new topic or add to the topic that lead me here.

Problem is there would have been no flow there either

Thanx all the same.

Well... first off... Wib you are an ass as usual... why bother

OK...

Springs come in different lengths and you will have to cut spacers for specific springs out of the PVC. If you have a 444mm spring and it has a 10mm preload, your springs would be in your forks with an internal depth of say 500mm and say your cap screws down into the fork 10mm.

Take 500mm - 10mm which gives you 490mm

Your springs are 444mm, so 490mm minus 444mm = 46mm

Now... you want 10mm of preload.... so you take 46mm + 10mm and that gives you 56mm.

You would cut the spacer to 56mm.

(Measurements are for example only!)

Clear as mud?

Well Wibby... there has been a rash of posts to old posts and I really don't want to read 2 pages of text so I know what someone is asking.

Leaving the old post available is a double edged sword. I don't archive them like some sites so I realize that this will happen from time to time.

I want to help but unless a question is posted to a recent thread or is a new thread it is tiresome.

Yeah I agree

Be a lot better to just start your own thread
