So about a week ago I put new sprockets and tires on my bike. After a struggle I got the front sprocket clip off and got the new sprocket on. Then it took me about 15 minutes with needle nose pliers to get the clip back on. I'm sure it would have been easier with snap ring pliers. Once on the clip was loose and I was unsure if it was completely in its groove to hold the sprocket on. I haven't really ridden it since cause its been at the shop getting inspected. I get it back this week and I guess will take it off, bend the clip tighter and put it back on with snap ring pliers. Any experience here would be great. Thanks.

I've bent'm tighter, if they're not much out of spec to begin with.

Yep.

Use the proper tool and the damage to the clip will LIKELY be less...although, it IS a pretty much junk clip for tension in the first place. There is NO room for abuse of that clip.

Get the proper tool, treat the BRAND NEW clip you're going to buy gently.

yeah yeah...well I'd have used the right tool, but I was expecting the sprocket to have a nut. The last sprocket i changed was on an atv and it was a bolt, So i get the rear on and go to the front and oops its a clip...what the hell...well i have a needle nose...but no snap ring plier. well thanks for the help. I'll get a new clip i guess and some snap ring pliers.

I "borrow" snap rings from work, and bought a 4 piece snap ring plier set at Autozone for $10.00. So much easier than pliers and a screwdriver, and I could reuse the old ring! Well worth a few bucks........

If you wondered how the front sprocket was 'attached' you could have always looked at it first....

Were 'ya gonna take that nut (it should'a had) off with those needlenose, too?

The 'reversible' pliers are cheap. Compression ring? Fine. Expansion? Presto-Chango)...fine.

Repeat for fun..but even WITH the right plier, the clip is going to 'stretch'.

Not that I'd admit it...but I've bent mine 'back' more'n once......
