Which pipe do I have?

Post by Motodeficient »

My 98 KDX220 came with an FMF Burly pipe... which I know is the earlier version of the gnarly. I'm not sure if its the woods or rev pipe? Or was there two versions of the "Burly"? I forgot to write down the stame on the back of the upper mounting tab, but I do remember it ended with the number 30. I think it was either B 30 or K30. What kind of pipe do I have?

K-30 = rev
K-35 = woods

I'm in the same situation as you, I've got an Fmf fatty on my H series bike, but it has the k-30 stamped on the tab. It's a revver, I love riding on the pipe!

You could always contact FMF to be sure . . . 2001kdx is probably right, though

2001kdx is correct - The K30 model number reflects the pattern/design cone build configuration: The designation 'Burly' or 'Gnarly' refers to the production/selling name assigned to the thickness of the material used to build the K30 designed pipe. Clear as mud right?

FmF has incorrectly stamped pipes in the past. The numbers (-30 and -35) do not always apply, either.

This is true: The rev profile pipe has a larger cone circumference than does the torque profile. At their largest point:

The rev is 14+"......around.

The torque is 13+".

Judging from the proximity of your pipe to the shroud, you have a rev profile pipe. Call it burly, gnarly, gold series or whatever you wanna call it.

Most 220 riders choose the rev profile.
