Super Rebound

Post by KarlP »

I've got a question for all you suspension geniuses.
I recently picked up a broken KDX at my local bike shop cheap ($98.00)
I really got it for parts and spares, the shock should be a spare, no?

Anyway, I noticed that the shock WON"T rebound if I run the clicker in to about 4 clicks out from full in. There does not seem to be much rebound damping before then, then all of a sudden at 4 clicks out it stays down. The compression adjuster acts a little funny, too.

If memory serves, when a shock does that it is an indication that it has lost the nitrogen charge. Yes?

I might put some air in just to see what it does. It would certainly be worth the $$ to get it fixed, anyway.

I figured out why the bike siezed in the first place: no oil in the gas!
I drained the tank planning to burn it in the mower. The gas that came out was just slightly amber, no oil.
Just goes to back up what I've always said- if you don't run Golden Spectro at 40:1 with premium pump gas you'll sieze your motor  See? I don't why anybody even asks that question anymore.

My now spare head and carb are off to RB, reeds are on the way, new piston and rings and gaskets are on the way. My bike is going to be so fast I'm going to need to put a bunch of extra zip ties in my chest protector!!

I'm no expert at this, but if it was me, I'd take it appart, clean and inspect everything, then put some fresh oil in it. If you don't have N2, you can try it with air to see if it works (any bike shop should have some N2 though).
It's very easy to take it appart, (The tedious part is removing the shock from the bike, the rest is a piece of cake)
Good luck
