Smoking to much?

I know 2 strokes smoke, but mine seems to be smoking a good amount even after warmed up. I didn't notice this so much when I first bought it. 2004, not too many miles. Only mod to anything mechanical is that I removed the snorkel. All else is factory. I'm running 32/1 fuel by the book. Runs well, just curios about the smoke. Of course, it smokes a really good amount when climbing and accelerating quickly.

Well, if you have not touched the jetting, OF COURSE it will be smoking like mad. Especially down in texas, it's hot down there!

Steve I have a stock KDX 200 and it is jetted with 48 pilot 160 main along with the 1173 needle -3. very rich for Texas I'm in San Antonio. I changed the jetting on the stock KDX 200 to 152 main and 42 pilot. I have a very modified KDX 220 I run 45 pilot, 158 main, needle= DEM on the 2nd clip. I run both bikes, very old lawn mower weed eater and chain saw on 40 :1 AmsOil and 93 octane pump gas, Rotella T synthetic oil in the bottom end. 2002 KDX with very light riding never been touched 2000 with a fresh engine with 1 year of hard once a week riding. no problems.

my observation is that OEM jetting is very rich and 32:1 is a waist of good oil.

This time of year with temps going from 50's to 90's it is hard to get it right .
Jet the bike on the fact it is going to get hotter so that means the bike will run richer as the temps go up.

The high temps & humidity or DEW point is effecting your air intake (the air is thicker and the engine gets less air but constant fuel )and causing the bike to run much richer than normal. The smoke could also be heavy from the built up spooge in the pipe so don't expect it to go away fast unless you repack or clean it out.

Thanks Kraz. This is the first season change since I have owned a 2 stroke and I wasn't thinking about the change in temp and air, and it definitely is getting hotter and more humid. Thanks for the suggestion. I don't like being the fogger machine for my local bike park!

Hi guys, am new to the site, I a have a question regarding smoke and other stuff from the exhaust pipe. What do you think is that black sticky stuff coming out of the end of the pipe? My KDX smokes a little as normal I think, the spark plug is a nice light brown colour. Any help would be appreciated.

the black smudge is comming from the oil in your gas that you are not burning. what are you running (gas mix)?

Thanks, I'm runnuing 40:1. we do a lot of slow riding through the jungle, lots of hills and big rocks. We have just completed a ride were we rode on the open road to get to where we turned off into the jungle, lots of high speed, about 15miles , that has stopped it dripping for a while. The exhaust pipe got quite hot and I burnt it all out.
I have learn't a lot from your posts. Thanks

Running WFO for a long time will do that. Gotta make sure your jetted right or even a little rich for those open road rides. Are you still running the stock jetting?

Yes, still running the stock jet. I was running 32:1 for the first couple of rides, but lots of smoke and the spark plug was black. Changed to 40:1 and the spark plug was a light brown colour.
