Gasket scraping tip...

Post by Colorado Mike »

Hey, this might seem kind of lame, but I was swapping my reed cage out and stumbled onto an easy way to get the old stuck gasket and sealer off. I used the top off a plastic pop bottle. The edge of the top is sharp enough, but the plastic is too soft to damage the aluminum surface. Worked great and left the mating surface kinda polished looking.

later,
Mike

Hey, good idea! Thanks for the tip.

When possible, it is always a good idea to use a tool that is softer than the surface you are working on.

I plan on getting the DF3 reed cage soon for my '03...should I plan on needing a new gasket, or will one come with the DF3?

yeah, that's the same unit I was putting on mine. It came with 2 gaskets. Just so you know, I haven't had much ride time at all with it since I put a fresh top end on and I was just putting around breaking it in, but so far it seems to have added quite a bit of punch to my low end over the stock reeds. I have a 220 with a FMF torque pipe. I still need to play with the jetting, I think I'm one size lean on the pilot. Can't tell you how the top end is yet (I don't ride there much anyway).
