Opportunity knocks

My local bike shop has a KDX220 that came in for repairs. The bottom end is toast; the mechanic says it looks like it was pretty badly abused. The guy who brought it in has declined to have it fixed and has in fact dropped out of sight, probably because the VIN has been ground off the steering head and motor. The shop owner has called the Sheriff's Office and a County detective to try to match the bike to a ripped off owner with no luck.
Sad situation, but I've made a deal with the mechanic to trade my Husky 50 for the bike.

Here is the opportunity:
I can send the head and carb off to RB for the magic touch.
I can fix the motor and put it in my KX125.
I can part it out and make a million dollars on e**ay :supz:
I can put the KDX shock on the KX and get rid of the lowering links on the KX
And so on....

What to do, what to do....

No real question here, but I am looking for comments or perhaps a combo I had not considered.

You guys are smart!

Parts are good.

...it's not like they MAKE 'em any more (the bike I mean).....

'Bottom end toast...' may have something to do with a 220 piston failure. Thay may render the cylinder in need of a replate.

Sheesh...the cost of one KIPS rod and a CDI box probably makes the buy worth it!

Get it!!

Well...if they don't find the real owner. Maybe the real owner filed the numbers off hisself so he could dump the thing in the woods! Just 'cuz they're filed don't mean it's been ripped from some nice guy, ridden hard, then trashed.

True.

I just bought a rear brake rotor. Had I known how much those things are, I would have taken better care of the OEM one.

One thing I am going to investigate/mockup is the swingarm differences between the KX and KDX. Building a hybrid seems to require machining the KDX motor mount where the swingarm bolt passes through (make it narrower) or the KX swingarm to make it wider for the KDX motor.
I can't see the disadvantage of moving both the KDX swingarm and motor as a set to the KX frame.
Heck, I've already got the KDX forks on my KX, I'm halfway there!

Seriously, my KX is an absolute hoot to ride. The KX motor is fantastic. However, it is absolutely useless for anything other than MX, and I don't do that NO MORE. I sure would like my KX to have the same engine characteristics as my KDX.

I'll need to start hunting for a set of KX forks.

Here's a deal- 2 sets of KDX forks, including wheel, TT, odometer, for one st of

I picked up this bike for the cost that the dealership had in it to date.

$98.00

The bike has very few miles on it. It looks like it was used to ride weelies up and down the street; still on stock tires K495 rear and K490 front. The chain guide is barely grooved and the footpeg teeth are still sharp.

The crank IS toast.

I bet the clutch is good. My basket is badly notched.

I have bought for my bike Boyeson 607 reeds and a piston and ring set. I've sent the head and carb from this bike off to RB.

I'm gonna have a new bike and a pile of spare parts!!

I think I'll build a hybrid with my KX. I bet the best bet would be to send this motor with the busted crank off to Fredette for some TLC. I'll put it back stiock and stick it in the KX.

Anybody want to buy a '95 KX125 motor? Sweet running!

Hey- I've still got a deal on the table....

Two sets of KDX forks, wheel, brakes, MC, TT etc.
for one set of KX forks, wheel, brakes, MC, TT, etc.

One of the sets of KDX forks has XR springs in it, I have the OEM springs and spacers to go with it.
