I can't really tell, I got mine brand new so I don't know what a non working kips would feel like...
What I can tell you is that even with the stock pipe (and jetted like a pig) I could feel a hit mid-2/3 range. When I switch to wood pipe, the hit was much much more noticeable, (the 1st time it felt like a turbo boost or sumthin)
Hope this help

Test it!
Pull the right hand cover... start it... rev to around 6 grand and see if it turns... If not... it's not working. You should definately feel the difference when riding. If it's working and you don't feel a difference, then I would say your jetting, timing or compression is off.

The "cover" to which Inda refers is the slotted "cap" immediately left of the KIPS resonance chamber (just in case you don't know)

?? Slotted cap, I don't have one mine is an E series. But what sort of hit do you mean because I just got a new top end with head mods and powervalves and the mechanic timed up the powervalves. Considering they weren't working at all before. I didn't notice any difference (no hit so smooth). I haven't checked jetting yet but should be fairly right I think .

When I was putting the top end back together I think the powervalves were timed correctly, they all opened at the same time. But maybe for some strange reason they aren't opening while it is running, can someone let me know how I can check the kips on an E series, Also what noise does the kips make when It comes in.

(My bike is also spooging for the first time i've heard this is normal but it was never doing it before).

scheckaet the turbo boost you mean like a powerband on a motocrosser, I love :prayer: powerbands but my kdx power just seems too role on.

Sorry about the thousand and one questions but
Thanks again.

It sounds like you've got the PV setup right. Time to check some other stuff and see how that stands. What jetting do you currently have in the carb? Temp/Altitude? How does the pipe to cylinder junction look? Condition of the reeds? Chipped or warped at all? Top end compression?

Gooday, My top end compression is higher than usual as I got my head modded, the reeds are new boyeson reeds as of two rides ago. And my jetting is a 155 main 45 pilot and a 1172N needle, temperature is usually between 57 - 77 degrees F and altitude is usually 300ft at most, but last weekend was riding in 47 degree temps at 500 ft altitude, Am getting cgk needle soon when my local shop finally gets it (have been waiting 4 weeks). Pipe to cylinder junction by that do you mean is it sealing, because ive sealed it with a new copper gasket so I think its sealed.

My bike does have a cool new sound at high rpm maybe thats the kips, but the transition, if it is the kips, is so smooth theres no boost like others have experienced, how is the hit on your bike m0rie.

Thanks again.

The stock needle is dud. When you get the CGK drop it in the #1 clip and with a 42 pilot and 152 main to start with if your temps stay in the 55-60 degree range, tweak from there. If your seeing any spoo coming from around the pipe to cylinder junction then its not sealed correctly. If thats happening your going to want to replace the orings on the pipe and add a generous bead of hi temp silicone between the orings before remounting it. Let the silicone setup over night before riding it.

How does your pipe look? Ever cleaned it?

No never cleaned it would that make a different, ive heard that you need a blowtorch or something. Isnt #1 on the needle a huge drop in lean from really rich.

If I go to honda and order the needle for the cr250 R1369NS will that be the same one as CGK.

If the pipe has never been cleaned and there is some carbon buildup in the neck of the pipe it can have some effect. Worth taking a look at next time you have the pipe off.

Not sure on the Honda needle, i'll take a look and see if JD has it listed in his spreadsheet.

With an E series carb the jet nozzle is a 2mm lower which tends to take a couple clips leaner than the needle choice in the H series carbs. With the CGK start on #2 and work from there but you'll most likely find that the #1 clip is where it work best.

How is the packing on your silencer?

The packing on my silencer is good, I repacked it a few rides ago, I think I might have a slight leek from the exhaust will have to check, the stange thing is I have a new copper gasket and orings on it. Dont worry about the honda needle, I priced it and its gonna cost me alot more cause its a genuine part. But guess what, when I though my part had dropped of the edge of the earth, after a months waiting I rung up and they told me that I would have to wait for a phone call (as usual but they never call you) but I pushed them to check and my needle is on earth after all.

I might head out on a jetting session soon with this new needle and im planning on running toluene, is it wise to jet with the toluene or switch to it after, I might be doing to many changes at once.

And what sort of noise does it make when the powervalves come in, so I can listen for it.

Thanks m0rie

I'd jet the bike without Toluene to start with and then switch to it after you've got a handle on things. You can sorta hear the valves but mostly its just feel. The bike should sound different once it comes on the pipe and the valves open up.

yeah it starts to make like a cool soughta tapping like sound, but in the transition there is no hit.
