Which chain to buy?

I have heard good things about the X-ring chains(correct me if i am wrong) and since i need a chain i am going to purchase a new chain and sprockets.
Just had a question on the sprockets. Should i go with alloy or steel? Not sure which has less wear and which is a better performer. Thanks for any advice. I was thinking of going with Primary Drive but if there is a better brand let me know.

I'm having my final drive all swapped out. Front/rear sprocket and chain.

I went with an O-ring chain from MonkeyButt, btw.

I considered going with a nice light aluminum one, but went with the steel instead, on their advice. Quail Chaser can chime in as to why and what-forz.

The $60 parts unlimited x-ring chian I bought of dennis kirk is awesome. Bang for your buck, no doubt.

I like some things KINKY, but not my chain

D.I.D. ERT non o-ring, 110 links

No kinks, nice and soft and supple

I'd second the PU X ring. I run one on the KX. Although, there are many great choices in chains.

Rick's memory is fading with age...He will be able to give a report on the PU X ring sometime in the future.

Steel sprockets hold up longer in the Offroad environment and are way cheaper.

Replace 'em as a set and you'll be good, whatever brand.

Watch out though, I bought a high dollar super titanium/beryllium/copper coated/doublexring chain, I forget who made it, it came with a Master Link that used no clip. I had to beat the Master Link pins flat with a slege against the garage floor.

Read the fine print!!!

It's actually a good idea to order a spare master link. Saves lots of trouble (and potential disaster) on the trail. Mine was actually pretty worn out and holding only by a strand of hair :?

I'd always heard all these stories about people putting on the master link on backwards (facing the other direction) and having it pop off in the middle of nowhere after only a few miles of use. I never checked it when I bought my bike and it never came off in the 1k miles I put on the chain before I replaced it. The mechanic helping me was surprised when he noticed that.

EDIT: I use a D.I.D professional o-ring chain currently. No problems so far... *knocks on wood*

the clip was about 1/4 of its original size, like paper thin
It's only 6 months old (DID O ring), and the rest of the chain looks great :hmm:
