General clutch question

Who has measured the 'clearance' on their clutch springs (space between coils) when they are installed?
It gets a bit complicated measuring installed height with a set of calipers and comparing that to a spring-bound coil in a vise, and a .xxx" measurement between coils doesn't tell you a whole lot.
BUT....that's what I'm asking!
