A reminder: FMF silencer packing

Post by strider80 »

Well the last time I repacked the silencer before doing some jetting I only repacked the main portion of my TCII silencer and did not take out the spark arrestor. This time I took the whole thing apart and found about an ounce of thick black goo in trapped between the end cap and the spark arrestor. I was wondering why I was spooing so much despite the bike running great.

Reminders reinforced:
Don't jet by spoo, spoo could be trapped in the silencer giving you a false sense of jetting.

Always dissassemble the entire silencer if your bike has been running rich.

Could you, or anyone else with the TC2 do me a favor?
Take some sort of a measurement with a tape measure, because I am not sure If I have a TC2 or Q Silencer. The Q is supposed to be longer.

Anyway, good advice. I Clean the entire thing before I repack it. I repack every 3-4 months.

How do you take the spark arrestor out of the canister?? I've changed my packing many times but I've never done that.

You have to drill out the rivets holding on the endcap and spark arrestor.

My aluminum canister is 16.2 inches long. Guess I've got the "Q". Best silencer for woods riding, I dont care about eighths of a HP.

My Rev pipe has a 16" inch circumference, while others claim to have 14". Don't know why though...

I thought the torque pipe was 11" in circumference and the desert was 14"?

From canyncarvr snipped from DRN:

"For the odd time (it has happened) that the MODEL numbers on the pipe are stamped incorrectly, keep this in mind: The KG30 (rev) is considerably larger in diameter at its largest point than the KG35 (torque) is. It's been awhile since I measured the two of mine, but as I recall, the CIRCUMFERENCE of the KG30 (rev) is 14", the KG35 (torque) is 11"."

Mine is 14" and I am 99% sure it is a rev/desert. But I have been wrong before!

Edit: Every thread I find says 11 and 14. You may have a fatty that was available some time ago.
