I've never looked into one....

It fits the OEM airbox? How? A foam filter has to be squished a good bit to get it in/out of the box.

A K&N wouldn't take too well to treatment of that sort.

While filter oils vary, I wouldn't think the water repellancy (the ability to keep water out) of a K&N would amount to diddle.

Price? $50 on ebay. BIG 'con'.

If'n it's anything like the one on the DR, it would not be a problem
K&N has a protective plastic frame on the outside of the filter

'Protective' plastic on the OUTside?

Anything protective on the OUTside isn't going to let air INside, no?

All that needs be done is to speak clearly.

Any 'frame' that protects the filter will not allow it to be 'bent'. If you can't 'bend' the filter, it won't fit (considering it to be the same size). Any K&N that IS 'bent' stays that way. Any attempt to FIX it will very likely end up in damaging the gauze.

If the 'frame' DOES allow the filter to be 'bent'..then it's not too protective, 'eh?

i saw an article somewhere(great citation, eh) and they did a bunch of tests of filters. It turned out that some napa cloth filter outperformed all of them. what has this got to do with a K and N filter? well the k and n let the most dirt pass through. just stick with the foam filters.

I bought one for my TTR 225 and it fit like ****. I hated that stupid filter, it got all stretched and distorted from trying to get it out of the air box.

Next time you's sees my DR grab youself a screwdriver and have a looksee.
Nuthin gonna git bent!

I've heard K&N will let fine dirt/sand get past but so far have yet to see this personally. Have around 10,000 miles on one on the Strom and around 3,000 on the one on the DR. So far intakes on both bikes remain spotless. DR has a foam prefilter over the top of the K&N, so far every time I've had it off the K&N looked like new

Only fits through the access door one way on the DR, but no bending or twisting needed and it is about the same size as the stock filter

If they are anything like the K&N for a Raptor I"d stay right away from em. I have spent the last month helping to jet a Raptor 660 with one fitted and we have gone up as many jets as Yamaha can supply and still need to go richer. We are close but not close enough. A Dynojet kit is on order. Just my 2c.

My argument has nothing to do with whether a K&N fits in a Suzuki or not..it's HOW would a K&N fit in an airbox where SQUEEZING the (foam) filter is required.

That a K&N fits in a DR or any other machine is completely btw.

ANY sand that is going to get past an OuterWear AND a K&N will get past any/everything else, too.

If they fit good, i think there wouldn't be a problem with the K&N. They are said the be the highest flow airfilter, but they may let the most dust in your motor too. I am also interested in getting a K&N for my bike.

??

The fit of a filter that lets 'the most' dust in an engine is rather beside the point, is it not?

Who cares how something that doesn't work fits?

And then say you want one?

You talk about fit in your first post. As i stated, if it fits, i don't see anything wrong with a K&N filter. And yes, if it fits, i would like to have one.

I was never saying the fit of the filter had ANYTHING to do with how much dust it let into the motor. K&N filters are highflow filters. You can pretty much see through the filtering material and they don't filter as well as a foam filter. And again, if they do fit, I WANT ONE.
