Fork guards

Post by wylde3 »

I was thinking about getting a set of neoprene seal savers and was wondering what I would do for fork guards? Any ideas, thanks.

RSU forks?

You want to protect the uppers (inners)?

You don't like the OEM bellows protectors?

I'm not knowing what you're after.......

Yea I would like to get rid of the stock accordian gauards. What is RSU forks? I read on here that if you install neoprene seal savers you still need some thing to protect the neoprene seal savers.

RSU=Right Side Up (OEM)...as opposed to...

USD= Up Side Down (KX, YZ, CR..whatever)

I don't know what you read, but if you have SealSavers or a like product on the upper tube of the OEM forks, I don't know why you would need to worry about any further protection. I wouldn't use short ones. Personal preference I'm sure.

Using SealSavers on USD forks works well..and so does using a USD type fork guard to protect the SealSavers...like so:

I wonder if that is what you read about?

Again, for the OEM configuration, SealSavers should work just fine.

I read that post from you LOL.

http://www.kdxrider.net/forums/viewtopi ... t=neoprene

quote: "Yup. Gotta have fork guards...in my never asked for opinion.

If I get smacked by a branch hard enough to just about knock me off the bike...I don't suppose a neoprene bootie would help much. That does happen to me regularly..I'm sure it happens to the front wheel assembly all the time!''

I appreciate your help

What Inda said...I had a hunch that what you read indeed referred to USD forks. Never heard of such a thing on the OEM forks.

I have never seen a fork guard setup for RSU forks. Not in the USD 'style' anyway (stiff plastic/carbon fiber bolt/clamp ons). The idea doesn't make any sense to me.

Sooo....no. I have no ideas.

Do you REALLY need fork guard on the oem if you have seal saver?
Since it's on the top, it should be far less prone to rocks, bangs, roots...unless you fall a LOT. IMHO the accordian guards should be enough (but don't look as kool  )

Thanks for the help guys :supz:

I went ahead and order the long neoprene seal savers for 44-50 mm forks. The worst that can happen is I replace the seals and put the accordian guards back on

Hey scheckaet did you get my PM about riding on Sundays?

Tell me your kidding Indawoods! I searched every where for the size of the forks and came up empty so I went with the information on Seal Savers website. 43mm would be 80cc forks

Ok panic attack over  I just got off the phone with Seal Savers and they said I orderd the right ones if I was wanting to replace the stock accordian covers. They said zip tie both ends and they would be just right to allow for suspension travel. They also said if I don't like them they will gladly replace them with another size

There is a member here (foots maybe) who has those type of RSU fork protectors. I'd be worried about them taking out an eye on big landings.

Motorider is correct.
