86 Airbox retaining clip nuts

Post by jhard527 »

I purchased a 86 KDX200 around Christmas and I really like it. It was pretty dirty, so I took off the seat and plastic to clean it up. The side cover over the airbox was held on by zip ties. The nuts are missing from the retaining clips around the airbox. so I can't use screws to attach the side cover properly. I purchased one of those "Every Bolt For Your Bike in a Bag" off eBay to get the right nuts and bolts for the job. Is there a way to re-install the nuts without drilling out the rivet, inserting the nut in the clip, and re-riveting? I guess I'm looking for the magic words.

My brothers 88 is sitting in my shop at home. I'll take a look when I get home and post something tonight.

The C Models are great bikes. I had an 86 and an 88.

My Brothers 88 has aircraft type fasteners on the airbox lid and box. The slotted screw on the airbox lid engages in a piece of spring wire on the airbox. We called them "Zeus Fasteners" when I was in aviation. Replacement fasteners should be easy to find. I never had problems getting parts for my brothers 88 when I rebuilt it 2 years ago. Kawa dealers, Bike Bandit or Dennis Kirk should all have the parts.

Also if there is an small airplane repair facility close to you I bet they could come up with something to help you out.
