Mods for tall riders?

Can anyone suggest some mods to make a bike "fit" a taller rider better??

I'm 6'2" and I currently have CR-Hi bars on a stock KX triple clamp on my KDX200. I also have tall seat foam. I haven't ridden many other bikes so I don't know what a "properly setup bike" is, but I've heard that certain bike mods can improve the ride for taller riders.

I've read another post about the benefits of CR Hi Mini bars, and their height and rise are much larger than my CR-Hi bars. Is there anything else to consider?

(I have a Scotts damper so I don't think bar risers are going to work.)

I checked CDave's tech tips on the "other site" and didn't find anything new.

Give Scotts a call and see if they offer a different arm for your stabilizer. One with some drop in it to accomidate for bar risers. I turned my KDX lower bar clamps around to move the bars forward a bit since they are offset to the rear. and added some Fly oversized bar mounts w/ FASSST Flex bars with an ATV Dana Creech bend. But then, I dont have a dampner on my 02 to deal with. Kind of a tuff call with the dampner.

Yeah, I called Scotts and they said "no dice" on the bar risers. They didn't mention a longer pin, but Skipro had the idea of using a different item for the pin if desired.

Scotts said the only valid option for the KDX (even with KX triple clamp) is taller handlebars. That is my plan.

Seems to me that a longer pin would have more force on it and would be more likely to break. Oh well, I'll try the taller bars first.

OK I'm 6'5" so I feel your pain. I have tall seat foam, TAG Mini bars (28" wide and the highest bend TAG make) and am now in the process of lowering my pegs and legthening my foot controls by 10-15mm. I'll let you know how it goes.

I really wish someone made some lowered pegs for the KDX, the cockpit just just too tight even with taller bars.
But with the bike out of production we wont see anything new.

The guy at Scotts felt that a "mini" style of bar would be so high that it would feel weird. The Carmichael High bar he recommended is about 1 inch taller than my CR-Hi bend now, but the Mini bar is over 1.5 inches taller than my current bar. How do YOU like your mini bar?

I only know what I have on my bike, so as far as I know, a mini bar would rock.

And yeah, I'd love to get a longer shift lever; even with a modest boot size (11), shifting can be a pain.

The minis are awesome, I dont have to bend over as far to hold on to them so it makes standing a little bit more comfortable. For your height it might just do the trick without having to lower the pegs. Re size 11: size 14us here.

Re 3/4 size: Its all about power to weight.

DANG !!! Do you live near a nucular waste dump or something ?!? Jus razzin ya but MAN you must have trouble finding 'descent' shoes in your size, I know I do.

Back to topic.....

I have pretty much hit the limit on my clutch cable. I would like to add some bar risers but definately won't have enough reach on the cable. So something else to keep in mind.

Wow, thanks for the post. It didn't dawn on me that cable length could become a problem. It sounds easier to just have my arms surgically shortened!!

You could get fat bar adapters and use a snomobile rise bars wich have a 4 inch rise so its would get you about 4 3/8'' rise over stock

You can flip the stock bar mounts around 180 degrees on the top clamp to get the bars a little more forward, too.
