Remember that Fredette video ?

Post by Mr. Wibbens »

where he just popped his axle right out slick as hell?

Well mine did not come out anywhere near that good! I had to use a brass drift and a mallet to pound mine out!

On top of that the bearings felt like they had gravel in 'em. I have Pivot Works bearings, the seals pop right out and I cleaned 'em up and have 'em soaking in WD40 at the moment. They are prolly shot but I'm gonna throw some grease in 'em and try 'ems out anywho (cuz I'm a cheap bastard)

Took some 400 and 600 grit wet/dry to the axle, got er shining like chrome!
Gonna take it in to work tomorrow and have the fabricator reweld the left snail adjuster back on

Then I'll install my brandy new 952! :supz:

Seriously wouldn't waste the time trying to recycle bearings, unless you just GOT to ride this weekend.
I've had a bearing spin in the hub and wreck it (the hub).

A light layer of grease on the axle prior to install will ease later removal.

Heck, you know all this.....

It's the corrosion between the axle and the spacer that's most of the problem.

Once you get the axle out, don't worry about being nice to it with 400/600 paper. 240 will work better as far as getting the corrosion off in the middle of the axle.

If you're changing bearings and have the spacer out, soak THAT thing in some dugunker, too, clean up the inside as best you can to make it easier next time.

Yes. He does have to ride tomorrow!!

Speaking of which....kind'a makes one wonder why he's doing TODAY! :hmm:

Why don't you have a bearing set sitting in your spares tub anyway.....??? Besides, taking a worn bearing OUT likely causes even more damage to the thing.

Save some time, save some stress on your hub...replace the things!

If you can't pick up some in town, call me before 1700 and I'll pick up a pair for you from here. Give me a number off the bearing if you have one. 6004 is easier to come by than, '1992 Kawasaki KDX E4 US'..or whatever.
