Re: 'You're supposed to oil the filter?'

Only if you want your bike to last for more'n a few rides.

Otherwise, heck no!!

Obviously, I'm kidding. Of COURSE you have to oil your air filter.

Was that a serious question? Have you ever seen an off-road-vehicle that did NOT have an oiled filter?

NoToil.

I have four (I think) filters..clean them all at once, oil the together, put them in a plastic bag for safe keeping until used. If going riding for several days in dusty conditions you need more than one filter.

Riding in no dust? We do that out here! We call it snow and ice!!

**edit**

Just looked at that scientific video.

I wanna see him duct tape it to his face and SUCK on it with the vacuum of a 200cc (or 220cc) volume about 100 times a second.

That was a serious question.

Lets try to help a newbie out here.

Where does this oil go exactly?

See, I can post replies with double spacing just like CC!

Add another fan to No Toil as I have used it for about 8 months now on my DS and have purchased a Uni for the KDX.

The rim grease that came with my kit however seemed to have turned a bit grainy compared to when I bought it. Maybe a heat/cold issue.

I also carry a spare filter in the box that is preoiled if caught in really dusty conditions.

Read about it in your owner's manual in the "Maintenance and Adjustment" section, pages 28-30 . . .

. . . in fact, read the manual from cover to cover.

I liked the No Toil. But, got annoyed at having to get the cleaner all the time. So I went back to Maxima FFT.

I have 5 filters and ussually wait until 3 of them are dirty before I clean them. That way I always have one on the bike and one clean spare just in case. I'm sure I'll get flammed for this, but I use old premix to wash the filters and then let them dry. Then wash with warm water and dawn. Let them dry again. Put them away until 3 are dirty again.

We've had many guys come in and complain about the Ready Filters. Ussually, we're replacing the top and bottom ends on thier bikes. No Toil's pre oiled filter is a thicker and higher quality filter than the Ready filter. Moose and Twin Air have pre oiled filtes out now. I think there is one more, but I can't think of the name right now. We haven't used any of the Moose or Twin Air filters yet, so I have no idea how good they are. I think the Ready Filters would work well in a more wet low dust envirionment. Out here, I wouldn't run one.

I never thought there was that much toil in cleaning air filters in the first place, just a little mess.

Dunk in a small tub of mineral spirits and squeeze
Wash with hot soap and water and rinse
Let dry
Dunk in a small tub of Motul (or other brand) air filter oil and squeeze
Do not go to the fridge and get a beer until after your hands are clean, or your going to hear, "What in God's name is this blue sticky stuff all over the refridgerator handle!"

I really like the No-Toil products. It's easy, fast and clean.

I never was able to get my filter clean of old petroleum oil completely unless I used a petroleum based solvent. The solvent seemed to shorten the life of the filters.
