tightening the clutch basket down?

I don't have a flywheel tool to hold the flywheel while I tighten the clutch basket after installing the new clutch. Is there any other way to hold it while I torque it to spec?

well, I haven't had to do this on my "new" bike, but on my old '81 I used to jam a hunk of oak in the primary gear. You could also put the thing in a high gear and jam the sprocket with a rake handle. So simple, even a caveman could do it.

You can use a strap wrench on the flywheel to hold it in place while you tighten the clutch basket.

'Rattle gun' in Aussie I think is 'impact gun'.

That's what I use.

I guess it could be a pea shooter with peas rattling around inside. I suppose you could jam THAT in your primary/final drive.....

It's hard to keep up with these furriners.

Weeeelllllll sooooooooooREY !!!

An impact wrench (also knows as an air wrench, air gun, or just gun in some contexts, as well as rattle gun in some countries). :butthead:

You could try a Tommy gun, they 'rattle'.

A Kawasaki impact that comes with SAE sized attachments?

That's ironic.

I agree and what is even more ironic IMO is some (maybe all) of the Kawaski tool line is made in china.

Better use that one very carefully if you happen to be using it for tigthening things that are loosie-goosie like the clutch bolt.
Heavy-duty impact wrench cranks out 220 ft.-lbs of torque for tough tightening and loosening of fasteners.
I have one of those (Harbor Freight) But there is no substitute for a good torque wrench.

I wonder about that 220ft/lb figure.

I have a 1/2" impact that is probably rated for something like that...and it can't get lugnuts off a wheel with 120PSI of air.

Maybe 220ft/lbs for .05 usec = squat?

Still...if you don't know what the thing does...do NOT tighten things with it!!
