Which Mobil One?

Post by dave04kdx »

I remember a thread a while back about Mobil changing the oil that you guys were using for the KDX trannys. Which color cap is now the correct oil? I remember red and gold but can't remeber which one is the correct one. Is memory really the first thing to go??

I don't worry about what color, As long as it is not energy conserving you are ok

I don't really like running synthetic in my tranny, dino seems to shift better, so I use Mobil Clean 5000

Any oil marked energy saving is going to give you some clutch issues.

I have recently (4 litres ago) changed from Valvoline to GOLD cap Mobil1. Both seem to have very good shifting and both come out after 2 rides relatively clean still. As hard as it is for me to compare tranny oils the 2 I mentioned above are head and shoulders above the Castrol ATF type F I tried. My bike hated ATF, rough shifting, false neutrals etc...

I musta had my last oil in mine for about 2 years, but prolly only had 3 or 4 rides on it!

I typically change it on my DR around 4,500 miles or so

I change mine about every ten to twenty gallons of fuel (a good enough nemonic device). About every five rides/weekends.

As soon as my oil starts to change greyish in colour in the sight glass, it is changed. What can I say ?!? I like to keep my engine oil as clean as possible. Waste ?? Possible, but the couple of bux it costs is cheap insurance and piece of mind in my paranoid view.
