weird sound

Post by gem »

On my last ride of the season(nov29) I heard a sound that happened once before, It was a squeak that was similar to the sound you hear when a car belt squeals. I shut the bike off rested a bit and never heard it the rest of the day. It happened when I was in nuetral and rolling to a stop. My uneducated guess would be the water pump/impeller. Any suggestions? This bike is an 01 KDX220.

Brakes.

You have too much time on your hands. And you must be single with no children if you even notice something like this:)

I'll tell you what, your bike won't last very long, if I were you I'd sell it for cheap and fast. As a good friend I can help you with that issue, I'll give you...say 10 bucks for it
(concidering the weird noise it's a pretty fair deal I believe)
So do we have a deal?

More seriously, I vote for squeaky breaks too or chain noise.

Wow you guys are a tough, sarcastic bunch. I am divorced have kids and being self employed don't have too much time on my hands, especially with all of the riding I get in. It is not the chain or brakes since it continued when completely still plus I would recognise those sounds. Indawoods, any details on the noise you heard before and was it the crank seals? If so I guess it,s time to dump the bike, but with the gnarly woods pipe and factory connection forks ten bucks seems a LITTLE LOW!!! It will be sad to say goodbye to my kdx. It was my first bike and tons of fun.

forgive my ignoranimousness but I don't know what type of surgery is required to replace crank seals, do you split the cases? any time there is mention of a cank problem isn't it usually a serious problem?

yeah, you don't want it to be the crank bearings making the noise.

It is a complete engine teardown. But like I said... have a leakdown test done to see if it is the issue. It could be something very simple also.... next time it happens... get off the bike and try to locate the source of the problem.
