JETTING FOR COLD DESERT RIDING?

Post by Duke »

Current specs are 155/45, resulting in good performance, nice brown colored plug and acceptable spooge emission. However, these symptoms were found in 68 degree plus weather. Now I plan on a venture to the desert this weekend and the temps are expected to be around 38-45 degrees. Since a large portion of the time will be spent traversing steep hills and sand washes, read wide open much of the time, I am considering the use of stock OEM jetting specs. Any comments?

The 20 degree temp change warrants the next size up to 158 and the sand conditions would probably need a 160.

I'd second bradf's suggestion. OEM jetting is rich enough to handle WOT in the desert as long as your not in Death Valley. Your fuel mileage will however suck. I wouldn't plan on more than 40mi from the tank.

My 200H (RB,VF3,-35,Q,etc.) would need a 162 at those temps and at 2500' in the desert. A 160 would be risky crisp jetting in the upper 30s and low 40s (on MY bike).
