What to look for with headlight issues?

Post by 2001kdx »

Both my headlight and taillight are out, at first they would flicker when riding, they soon did'nt work at all. I put a fresh bulb in the tail, and both lights worked great for about a minute, then burned the bulb. I dont know where or what to look for, just looking for some help, night time comes faster now, and the occasional night ride through the swamp is always fun

Sounds like you have a short somewhere in the circuit.
I would check the wires for loose connection and / or exposed wires especially where they are rubbing the most because of vibrations (like front end and rear fender)

if it's really burning the bulbs out , sounds like your voltage is rising too high. might want to check the regulator.

Do they blow with the bike stationary ?? IE electrical fault. Or do they blow only when the bike is being ridden ?? IE power surge, vibration.
