I just use a piece of dowel and knock it out. Basically just pushed through.

I've had a lot better luck pushing it out AFTER I done spun off the
nut....
Although, I've never tried pushing it out
without having done spun off the nut.
Unless you've been very religious about swingarm maintenance, the pivot pin will likely take a good bit of whack to remove. It's usually resistant to removal even when the bearings are fine.

nut is off
likely will have to wack, there is the 20mm(?) bolt head on the left(left on mine) that i wanted to make sure was not suppose to be turned.
whacking to comense this week

I was just razzing KayD about the nut spun part. He kind'a left that part out.
Unlikely to make any difference, but I'd sure give the pin a turn or two before I started the whackment.
Where it's going to stick is pin-to-sleeve, so turning the pin won't DO anything most likely, but I'd give it a twist or two anyway.
How long has it been since it's been apart?

If you haven't and the previous owner din't either...you may be in for a bit of a headache.
You've read the fables of old about that?
Laying the bike on its side and dumping penetrant in it for a few days, heating it with a torch..all that fun stuff?
Nah! It will come out just fine!!!!!

I went through this on my old 98 XR where the previous owner never touched this. I swore I would never let mine go over a year. I never got the bolt out either even after using a 12 lb sledge.

I've persuaded axles with a 12# sledge..and a piece of iron pipe that looked pretty much like a mushroom by the time I got the axle out.
Want a workout? Swing a 12# sledge for awhile.
